Pittsburgh has stories nobody's telling.

The Pittsburgh being built today looks nothing like the one the rest of the country remembers. Artists are reclaiming old mill buildings. Some of the world's boldest tech is being made in converted foundries. And every one of the city's ninety neighborhoods has a tight-knit community ready to welcome you in — with the unpretentious, Appalachian warmth the region has always been known for.

New Rust is a podcast about the people, places, and ideas that make Pittsburgh exactly what it is — and nothing like anywhere else. Every episode digs into a different corner of the city: the underground makers, the unlikely entrepreneurs, the scenes growing in old steel towns, the artists rebuilding neighborhoods one storefront at a time.

Hosted by designer and Pittsburgh enthusiast Vic Costik, and Gerra Bosco — a gumband musician who grew up here, left, and came back — because some cities just pull you in. Together they're untangling Pittsburgh's hidden gems, quirky people, and the stories that prove this place is way more interesting than people think.

Feature your music

Most episodes run on original songs from our musical co-host, Gerra Bosco — but we're eager to showcase more of Pittsburgh's local music scene. If you're a Pittsburgh-local musician willing to volunteer a track to be featured on the show (with full credit), we'd love to hear it.
